I am a volunteer with the Crisis Support Services of Alameda County and I am voicing my opposition to the FCC’s recommendation that 211 be used for suicide prevention calls. Our line is meant specifically for crisis and suicide intervention calls. 211 is intended for referrals or information. Combining these lines would create barriers to how quickly and effectively people access crisis services. Using 211 goes against SAMHSA’s recommendations. I encourage considering 988 as a viable alternative.
