Net neutrality is essential for true internet freedom. Internet providers must not be allowed to discriminate traffic, limit bandwidth, or give preferential treatment to specific subscribers or publishers of information. All internet providers must give equal access to all websites. Internet providers must not be allowed to capture and sell or otherwise profit from subscribers personal information and internet usage patterns. Choice does not exist for internet providers in most of the country. Most of us are limited to a single internet provider and if we dont like the policies of the provider, we have to live with it or disconnect from the internet alltogether. We must establish rules that prevent internet providers from choosing which content sources will be given preferential treatment and which will be throttled. Any content or source-based preferential treatment must be specified by, and if necessary, financed by, the consumer of the data. It is absurd to allow internet service providers to control which media sources should be given priority, based on back-room business deals. This will certainly result in biased media and unfair competitive advantage. Media outlets with the most money and savvy deal-making will be given bandwidth preference, and ultimately dominate the internet. If an individual wants to pay extra for higher quality from a specific media source, they should be free to make that decision. On the flip side, an individual should not have to pay their internet provider for preferential access to media outlets they don't use, and don't want to support. If you do not follow these principles, the internet will become controlled by a few large corporations who will control what we can see, do, and publish on the internet. If you really want internet freedom, you must support Net Neutrality. If you really want a democratic society, you must support Net Neutrality.
