I am writing about the importance of keeping the internet free and open as a Title II Common Carrier communications service. Net neutrality is what makes the internet great, and I do not want Internet Service Providers to be able to control what we can see. I do not want ISP's to be able to block or slow down websites for any reason, for example when the ISP doesn't approve of the content (an example of this sort of interference would be when Verizon's cellular division chose to censor Planned Parenthood's text messaging system on the grounds that their content was "unsavory"). I do not want ISP's to be able to slow down a website because that website does not have the money to pay to be in a 'fast lane.' Right now, on the neutral, Title II internet, nonprofits and tiny websites operated by one person have an equal shot at success as any big corporation. In this way the neutral web nurtures innovation and democracy. Furthermore, I do not want ISP's to be able to charge end consumers more for what is currently unfettered, open, free content. Surveys indicate extreme dissatisfaction with cable television corporations, and only large corporations interested in their own profits would benefit from the internet becoming more like cable television. Please continue to protect the internet as a Title II, Common Carrier communications service. Anything less has the potential to take power away from everyday net denizens and award that power to the ISP's, decimating the open internet we love. Thank you.
