I began my software engineering in networking with Digital Equipment Corp when the internet was in its infancy, and have participated in its growth. The tools that it has provided has allowed great innovation, and not just from the large corporations, but from small developers like myself. The internet should remain a conduit for communication, not a corporate content delivery mechanism. The internet allows two computers to communicate with each other, and by extension, two or more people. I consider this a freedom of speech issue. When I want to communicate with another person through the telephone system, do I have to get permission from the telephone provider? Do they get to slow down or limit my conversation? If I write a network application (innovation), should I have it stifled by the ISP?
