This merger can only make things worse. The idea that it will improve coverage and service is absurd. The fundamental principle of capitalism relies on competition. If there is decreased competition, there is decreased motivation to innovate, as innovation is less necesary to keep the customer base. Beyond this, with fewer network alternatives, it is less costly to screw over the customers for more profit, and that is the only thing that could ever come of this merger.
