The FCC rule that no entity may own a number of TV stations which reach more than 39% of households in the nation should not be modified. This is a safeguard against a monopoly that would allow one company or entity undue power to influence public opinion in the US. Such a monopoly is a threat to democracy in the US. It seems that the owner of Sinclair Broadcasting are asking that the rule be waived. They are requiring stations to broadcast the comments of a close associate of President Donald Trump to comment on public affairs on all their stations. It looks like they be a powerful outlet for government propaganda on behalf of Donald Trump. The 39% rule should remain in effect to safeguard democracy in our country.
