Maintaining the principles of net neutrality is paramount to the survival of the Internet as it is today. The Internet is a utility -- one through which many diverse services run. To allow corporations to decide which of those services is more important or requires additional cash is anti-consumer and is anti-competition. To give ISPs the power to promote their own video or music services over those of competitors takes power away from the consumer to choose what they want to see and how they get to it. Corporations are not self-regulating entities -- their only concern is their bottom line. The FCC must use its power to protect the consumer interest, not the corporations' interests. The actions the FCC is proposing are blatantly anti-consumer. It is also a blatant gift to ISPs who would love nothing more than to shut out websites like Netflix in favor of their own streaming service. When ISPs talk about net neutrality limiting innovation, they are talking about their ability to innovate more fees out of their customers. If they truly fear becoming "dumb pipes", that is, simple taxis of data, then they must start being a little more creative in their approach, rather than bilk their customers out of their last cent by manipulating their access to the Internet.
