As a person in the high tech industry, I have multiple comments on our nation’s infrastructure: 1. We are not investing enough in high-speed, low latency networks for all of America. We have ‘technology slums’ where our citizens who trust you to bring them acceptable services at reasonable costs are not being serviced. 2. A minimum bar needs to be set for what we consider high speed networking. 25 Mb/s down and 3 Mb/s up should be the very minimum acceptable speeds to get any funding from FCC or other programs. This should be the minimum level to be considered broadband. 3. Internet should be treated more like a utility with a ‘provider of last resort’ factored into telecommunications contracts. 4. Our current and future generations need this vital utility to succeed, yet little is being done to make sure even medium sized communities have access to reliable connectivity at reasonable prices. 5. It is hypocritical that the FCC runs a web site to accept comments and to disseminate information while not guaranteeing our citizens have access to the technology needed to use it. All of our citizens deserve access to reliable, high speed, low latency Internet services. We cannot have a fast lane, slow lane, no lane approach to this basic infrastructure need.
