Do NOT repeal Net Neutrality rules There is a regulation in place that prevents Internet service providers from favoring certain types of internet traffic over others. Currently, your ISP must treat traffic from your favorite websites with the same level of priority as it does from sites that are not your favorites. In a word, your ISP is required to be Neutral with regard to the traffic it sends to and from your house or devices. Maybe you watch a lot of Netflix, Amazon Video, YouTube, Hulu, or online HBO. Maybe you spend a lot of time in political arguments on your favorite far right or far left discussion boards. You probably have a preference on where you get your news from. Your ISP currently is not allowed to restrict your access to any of these things. This regulation is known as Net Neutrality. Today the FCC announced it would repeal these rules, with the expected vote to occur Dec 14th. This allows ISPs to begin introducing packages that may require you to pay extra for access to any of the above mentioned items... and not pay extra for others, purely at the ISP's discretion. Approximately half of the population does not have a choice who to buy their high speed internet from. Opinion: The corporations that provide internet access almost universally favor eliminating net neutrality. It would open up new tools they can use to generate revenue without costing them anything. It also allows them to favor certain content providers over others; in many cases the company that creates or sells content is also the same company that is your ISP (e.g. Comcast owns NBC Universal, AT&T is trying to buy Time Warner, etc...). I do not see corporations as evil. Nor do I consider them good. They are simply amoral, driven by profit. Frequently this profit motive works to provide better services, products, and overall experiences. When there is little to no competition, or there are conflicts of interest, the profit motive works only to increase profit. Personally, I REALLY like shows like Stranger Things (Netflix), Game of Thrones (HBO), and even some fun Amazon Original shows. If my ISP and its parent corporation want me to purchase access to THEIR content, then they should create superior products, not restrict access to someone else's products.
