I believe net neutrality is an incredibly important thing to us as human beings. It's important not just because it allows us to find and learn information quickly and easily, but because it allows us to communicate with others. To communicate with friends and family that we don't often get to see due to distance between us, whether that friend or family is in a different state or even a different country. It allows us to make connections we sometimes wouldn't be able to make without it. Like me, I suffer strong social anxiety, so I have a lot of trouble talking to people in person because I get extremely anxious when I do. The internet cuts that anxiety out because I can talk to people without having to worry about what they think of my looks or anything else like that. I can communicate freely with people all over the world without being afraid. Some people use the internet as a coping mechanism to help them face all the problems they face on a day to day basis. It's my honest opinion that doing away with net neutrality will make this difficult- even impossible- for many people who have a hard time with things like that. It's incredibly important to me as a citizen that this law doesn't pass because in my eyes, it's wrong to try and control what people see online. The internet is meant to be an open source of information for the entire world. It's not meant to be controlled and manipulated. It's not meant to be a way to make profits for large companies. The internet wouldn't be here today if people hadn't decided to build it. Everything we have today exists because people decided they wanted to make life better. Taking net neutrality away is a step backwards when we- the world as a whole- need steps forward.
