The clear winners from any laws removing net neutality would that giant corporations who provide internet access to phones and computers. These companies have fought for YEARS against broadband regulations, because they limit the profits these companies can make. A repeal of the rules would allow these companies to exert more control over the online experiences of American consumers, creating an unfair environment where access could potentially be denied to a large swath of consumers who cannot afford to pay for access, and require those of use for whom this access is necessary for our children to succeed in school to pay MORE for an already expensive product. Removing net neutraility would allow telecom companies to play favorites and provide consumers easier access to certain web services-the ones that can afford to pay extra fees-while limiting consumer access to others. The obvious winners in this scenario: the online behemoths. The losers? Smaller companies with only a local reach. Because only the larger companies with bigger revenue streams would be able to afford the extra fees broadband companies would charge to provide preferred treatment. This will stifle competition and innovation and create a monopolistic environment. Consumer costs will also rise, when the broadband companies begin to charge additional fees to access special data packages (like video and game packages). So in addition to the monthly fee to access the internet, there would be additional fees for the broadband provider to allow you to stream video and games-these fees would be IN ADDITION TO the fees that providers like Netflix or HBO on demand ALREADY charge for their services. Leave the net neutral. Please vote no on this bill.
