The FCC has voted to loosen the rules on companies owning multiple TV and radio stations in the same market. These new provisions, if enacted, would allow enormous media conglomerates like Sinclair Broadcasting Group to develop broadcasting monopolies and force their own news and entertainment agendas on local markets. Sinclair already has a reputation for doing just that. This ruling would eliminate variation and competition, and would be bad for journalism, bad for local media markets, and bad for us as citizens and consumers. Existing regulations that prohibit media monopolies exist for a good reason; do not roll them back!
