Dear Mr. Pai, Do not destroy the Internet. This shouldn’t be too much to ask. “Restoring Internet Freedom” is as Orwellian a name as you could have chosen, since, in essence, you will be crushing the most important 21st century freedom of speech. That is smashing freedom with a hammer, not restoring it. The whole idea that companies who provide Internet service get to blackmail websites into paying for the public to actually view their sites will turn the internet into one gigantic Walmart commercial. Your name will be hated globally. You obviously haven’t thought about your legacy. You will be known as the man who destroyed the single best informational resource humanity has ever seen. Your name will be cursed by everyone who speaks it. You will bring shame on your family for generations. Your children won’t have anywhere that they can escape it. The Internet was a global equalizer. There was a place where the poor were equal with the rich, and you intend to destroy it. People will recognize the name, “Pai,” and shun your offspring. There is no amount of money that can truly be worth the shame that you and all of your descendants will endure. The bribes that you have accepted will be your, and your family’s, undoing. Please wise up. You are about to become one of history’s greatest monsters. Sincerely, Eric Peter Ramberg
