>>>IMPORTANT NOTES!!!<<< This README file includes: 1. LICENSING FLOWLINK(R) 2. CONVERTING A FLOWLINK 4 DATABASE 3. INSTALLATION CD CONTENTS 4. CONTACTING TELEDYNE ISCO ------------------------------------------------------- 1. LICENSING FLOWLINK: Flowlink can be licensed as Flowlink LE (a lite edition), Flowlink 5 (the standard edition), or Flowlink Pro (an enterprise edition). All versions of Flowlink can be licensed for use as a permanent license or fixed-term lease. Before Flowlink will run on your Windows personal computer (PC), you must activate the license for the type of software you have purchased. The issued product serial number determines which type of license will be activated. You can run the Flowlink 5 version in a demonstration mode by canceling the license activation. In this mode, Flowlink 5 will operate using a temporary license. Follow the on-screen instructions to activate Flowlink. You will need a valid serial number for the type of license you've purchased. You can find the serial number on the package label just below the bar code. IMPORTANT! The activation key is unique for each PC. Make sure that you install and license Flowlink on the PC intended for primary use. For temporary use, you can cancel the licensing process to use Flowlink as a fully-functional demonstration for a period of 10 days. Refer to the Help screens during license activation if you need assistance. If you have purchased an upgrade from Flowlink LE to Flowlink 5 (or similar upgrade) you can activate the new license key by selecting Flowlink's Utilities>License menu command. Please contact Teledyne Isco if you have questions about license keys, leased software, or upgrades. ------------------------------------------------------- 2. CONVERTING A FLOWLINK 4 DATABASE The database structure used by Flowlink version 5 is different from earlier versions so an older database must be converted before it can be opened. If you try to open an old database version, Flowlink will let you select one of two options for converting the database: a complete or a partial conversion. A complete conversion is recommended, but keep in mind that this requires more time to finish the conversion process. You can estimate one minute for each MB of the original database file size, though the conversion process runs faster than this on most computers. A partial conversion is faster and allows you to open the database sooner. However this option limits the usability of the database. This option may be practical if you want to see the contents of the database, but do not intend to use advanced editing and graphing features. Note: After converting the database you will not be able to open it using Flowlink 4. If you intend to still use the database in Flowlink 4, cancel the conversion and make a copy of the Flowlink 4 database in a new folder. Then, open this copy with the new version of Flowlink, leaving the original database unconverted for continued use with Flowlink 4. As a precaution, Flowlink makes a copy of the unconverted Flowlink 4 database and places it in a subfolder within the working directory. ------------------------------------------------------- 3. INSTALLATION CD CONTENTS The Flowlink Software Installation CD contains installers for all Flowlink products, and includes a variety of other useful files. Documents Folder. The Documents folder contains: * The software license agreement for Flowlink software. * Release notes detailing the changes in each version of the Flowlink software. * The instruction manual for the Flowlink software in PDF format. * A registration form for Flowlink users. Flowlink Folder. The Flowlink folder contains the files necessary to install Flowlink and its supporting programs. Flowlink Server Folder. This folder contains the files necessary to install Flowlink Server. Flowlink Server should be installed on a Windows Server to support Flowlink Pro clients. DO NOT INSTALL FLOWLINK SERVER IF YOU HAVE PURCHASED FLOWLINK LE OR FLOWLINK 5 SOFTWARE. If you have purchased Flowlink Pro, refer to the Flowlink Pro Server Installation Guide packaged with the software. SampleDB Folder. This folder contains a zipped Flowlink database that includes graph and table files. This sample database can be opened to help users learn about Flowlink features without the need to collect field data. To restore the sample database: 1. Create a folder for the database (C:\FL5\SampleDB is recommended). 2. Start Flowlink, and select the Database>Restore from Backup menu command. 3. Restore the database from D:\SampleDB\sample.zip (assuming D: is your CD drive) to the destination directory you created in step 1. Flowlink will then unzip, restore, and open the sample database. USB driver: This folder contains a program to install the appropriate hardware drivers for the Isco USB to 2150 connect cable. ------------------------------------------------------- 4.
